Ujjayan Bhattacharya is Professor of History at Vidyasagar University, Midnapur, India. He teaches a range of courses on early modern history and has served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, 2013-15. He was educated at Jadavpur University, Kolkata and completed his PhD (2001) on the agrarian society of Bengal in the eighteenth century at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He currently works on the history of water management, floods and rural economy, and has presented papers on these subjects at international conferences.
